An Ectopic ACTH Secreting Metastatic Parotid Tumour
A 60-year old woman presented with features of Cushing's syndrome (CS) secondary to an ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) secreting metastatic parotid tumour 3 years after excision of the original tumour. She subsequently developed fatal intestinal perforation and unfortunately died despite best possible medical measures. Ectopic ACTH secretion accounts for 5-10% of all patients present...
متن کاملOncocytic metaplasia of the nasopharynx or extra-parotid Warthin's tumour?
A case of oncocytic metaplasia obstructing the Eustachian tube in an elderly patient is described. Histologically, it was similar to Warthin's tumour of the parotid gland. The lymphocytes were predominantly T cell, unlike those of Warthin's tumour which are predominantly B cell. It is proposed that oncocytic metaplasia represents an early stage in the evolution of Warthin's tumour.
متن کاملSimultaneous nasopharyngeal and parotid gland Warthin's tumour: a case report
Herein, a rare case of synchronous cystoadenolymphoma (Warthin's tumour) of the right parotid gland and the nasopharyngeal space is described. Although Warthin's tumour (WT) of the parotid gland is a common benign pathology, the occurrence of extra-parotid cystoadenolymphoma is rare. Extra-parotid WT have been mainly localised in the submandibular gland, periparotid region and occasionally in o...
متن کاملSclerotherapy for the treatment of Warthin’s tumour of the parotid
Warthin’s tumour (WT) is the second most common benign salivary gland tumour of the parotid gland. Several treatments have been proposed. Surgery is considered the treatment of choice. We report a case of an 83-year-old woman who was treated using sclerotherapy and discuss the possible benefits of this method. To our knowledge this is the first report on sclerotherapic treatment of WT.
متن کاملBilateral parotid secondaries from primary bronchial carcinoid tumour.
Three years following a right lower lobectomy for primary carcinoid tumour of the bronchus, a patient presented with bilateral parotid masses. On investigation, both these were shown to be carcinoid tumours, consistent with metastatic spread from the primary bronchial tumour. This unique case is presented together with a discussion of the diagnostic methods employed.
